The Coaching Difference
Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. Coaches honor the client as the expert in his or her life and work, believing every client is creative, resourceful, and whole. We are different from other professionals you may have experienced.
Mentors have a great deal to offer from their personal and professional experiences. A coach works with individuals to identify what can be different. You are the expert on your life; your coach is an expert in the coaching process.
Therapists help people overcome problems and issues while focusing on past experiences and considering present situations. The focus in coaching is the present and a more meaningful future. It takes you from where you are to where you want to be.
Consultants typically have an agenda and possible answers from their unique field of expertise. Coaches have no agenda except to help you get the results you want. While we may have specializations, our true expertise and passion is the coaching process.
Sports coaching has similarities to professional coaching. Both strive to bring out the best in you and your organization. With sports coaching the focus is on competition and winning as an individual. Professional life coaching helps you think creatively and create win-win situations for everyone involved.
Friends and family members are extremely valuable to a full and happy life. Friends and family members usually have their own agenda, will want to fix things, and will simply tell you what to do. Coaching is a collaborative effort based on what you want and what you think you should do.
A professional coach will:
- discover, clarify and align with what the client wants to achieve,
- encourage client self-discovery,
- elicit client-generated solutions and strategies, and
- hold the client responsible and accountable.
Coaching helps clients dramatically improve their outlook on work and life, while improving their leadership skills and unlocking their potential.
